Identities in Tunelled Networks and during Network Address Translation

This thesis introduces the design and implementation of the extension of the system for lawful interception. The system is developed as a part of the Sec6Net project at FIT BUT and provides a platform for research activities in determining identities in computer networks. Parts which has the task of monitoring changes in a user's identity will be extended, so that the system is able to determine the identity even in the tunneled and translated networks. It describes the problems encountered during implementation and their solutions. There are described mechanisms for tunneling networks, mainly virtual private networks and transition mechanisms for IPv6, IP addresses and NAT variants. In the end the tests of the individual modules are described.

At a Loss for Words: Capturing the Duality of Political Correctness (PC)

This thesis examines the concept of political correctness (PC). This social phenomenon has recently become a political tool used widely by right-wing politicians to describe the divide between the ruling "elites" and the "ordinary people." More generally, PC acts as an indicator of a broader cultural turn toward "post-material values" in the West. However, despite its prevalence, there is a lack of consensus on its definition and underlying purposes. This thesis wishes to contribute to the PC debate by 1) outlining the historical development of PC, 2) reviewing and synthesizing existing literature, 3) proposing a conceptualization of PC, and 4) developing a measurement tool for PC at the individual level. It is argued that PC has a dual nature: it is comprised of a normative (adherence to social norms and values) and a behavioral dimension (prescription of designated behaviors meant to be their expression). Moreover, it is hypothesized that a gap exists between these dimensions that can be influenced by reputational concerns (social desirability), perceived threats to freedom (psychological reactance), and political orientation. Bautzen and Budyšin: Language Ideologies in the Capital City of Sorbs

In this thesis, I attempt to describe and analyse language ideologies relevant in the specific situation of the Sorbian minority in the city of Bautzen (Sorbian: Budyšin) - a city with a clear German majority at the same time considered a cultural, social and political centre of Sorbs - with a special emphasis on links between language and nationalism. Focusing on these links, I also examine the specific role of language for maintainance of Sorbian national identity. I also view Sorbian language ideologies in the broader context of social and political relations in and around Bautzen, whereas I, among other topics, inquire into recently significant hatred of local German radical right towards the Sorbian minority. At the same time, I attempt to capture the power relations between German and Sorbian languages. Apart from the paradigm of language ideologies, I am also informed by works of certain poststructuralist authors, especially due to their emphasis on constructivism regarding identities and language mechanisms. China's Identity in Relations to North Korea

This bachelor thesis deals with Chinese national identities that can be found in its foreign policy towards North Korea. At the beginning of this thesis the basic notion of national identity is defined and the overall methodological procedure of the submitted work is presented. Subsequently, Chinese identities and the basic historical context necessary to understand the broader context of this work are presented in more detail. Then we analyze Chinese statements and Chinese foreign policy in relation to North Korea and determine the possible occurrence of some of the Chinese national identities. In the conclusion of our analysis, we find that Chinese common identities apparent in China's global orientation are only partially found in China's policy towards North Korea. From the analysis of both Chinese statements and foreign policy, it is clear that there are some elements typical of individual identities, most often for the identity of China as one of the great powers. Even though we find that the progressive traditional Chinese-North Korean fraternal relations are weakening, the analysis of Chinese identities confirms the historical specificity of this relationship and, in general, both these nations.

EU and NATO enlargements and Russia´s reactions: another division of Europe?

The theme of this thesis is the enlargement of the EU and NATO, and Russia's response to such expansion. The aim of this work is to analyze whether the expansion of these institutions after the end of the Cold War is creating a new dividing line in Europe. The analysis is embedded in a constructivist theoretical perspective. I will therefore examine the distinct identities of the West (for purposes of this work represented by the EU and NATO) and Russia. These different identities should cause that the actors perceive the EU and NATO enlargements from a different perspective. Different vision of certain reality then creates tension between the two "value blocks" and thus may resemble the Cold War.
